Tonight Rebecca truly went above and beyond the standards of care for my patient and his family. My patient was transitioned to comfort care tonight, and his family was all coming in to be with him and say his goodbyes. We were informed by the family that the wife of my patient was also currently hospitalized in another unit. Rebecca, who was the charge nurse for the night, decided to give the family and patient a bit more comfort in this situation and reached out to the nurse taking care of the wife to see if she could bring her over to the unit in order to say goodbye to my patient. Once she got the okay, Rebecca went over to the other unit with a monitor and a wheelchair and brought the wife over, and situated her in the room so that she could hold her husband's hand and spend some last moments with him. She continued to keep a close eye on the wife and tend to her needs, even though she was a patient from a completely different unit. She gave this family the gift of being able to spend one last time with the children and parents all together, which I am sure is something they will always appreciate and remember. She truly demonstrated extraordinary compassion for this family, and I am proud to be able to work beside her.
