I will never forget the compassion I felt from Bekah as her eyes looked over her mask with empathy for what I was going through.
My husband, R was cared for In the ICU in August 2020. As you know, when a family member is in ICU it is a difficult time. This was a difficult time where I looked to the staff for guidance, direction, and support. My husband was ready to give up, palliative care was called in and this became a tougher situation.
I was alone In ICU - my family could not come up to help me with decisions due to the visitor restrictions. I looked to R's nurses for help and so much more.
The nurses in ICU who attended to R's care were stellar, superior, and responsive. Since this was a confusing time, I asked my niece who is a nurse out of town to call and discuss the issues with the nurses so she could break it down for me. My husband was at St. Luke's for about 18 days. We had several nurses on three different floors. But there was one nurse in particular who stood out
Bekah.
Bekah was so supportive to not only R but to me as well. She was always, and I mean always, on top of the situation and extremely knowledgeable. When I asked her questions, she was able to give me answers either on the spot or with a timely check. This fact alone helped ensure everyone was on the same page in a rapidly changing situation. I was trying to be a supportive wife and was falling apart inside being told by my husband he just wanted to let go and die.
I will never forget the compassion I felt from Bekah as her eyes looked over her mask with empathy for what I was going through. It was so heartfelt and that gave me encouragement and the support I needed at that moment and beyond. I personally feel Bekah's knowledge of the situation, and keeping me in-the-know is what avoided a miscommunication about a procedure.
My husband has progressed in his recovery and I am thankful to St. Luke's. I am especially thankful to Bekah and her exemplary knowledge and patient care. Not only patient care but the support she gave me. I will always have a special place in my heart for her.
