Rebekah is a shining light of compassion, professionalism, and knowledge.
Rebekah LaFoe is an outstanding oncology nurse at Emory Winship Cancer Institute. Since joining our team in 2017, Rebekah has made significant contributions to both our department and our cancer patients. Her efforts and dedication have been recognized countless times, and I firmly believe there is no one more deserving of recognition than Rebekah. Rebekah has excelled in her dual roles as a clinic nurse and unit nurse educator.
In both capacities, she has consistently demonstrated exemplary nursing care and has embraced Emory’s core values. Over the past year, Rebekah’s commitment to advancing oncology education for our clinic nurses has been particularly impressive. She has hosted multiple in-services and learning sessions, collaborating with oncology providers to ensure that our team stays up to date on the latest practices in cancer care. Her efforts have also extended beyond our department, as she has worked with several other departments within the Emory system to arrange educational and shadowing opportunities.
This initiative has provided our nurses with a broader understanding of the work being done across various specialties, ultimately enhancing their ability to educate and support our patients. What truly sets Rebekah apart is her unwavering dedication to patient advocacy. She has consistently demonstrated a commitment to improving patient outcomes by escalating concerns and ensuring that each patient visit is as successful as possible.
Recently, a patient's husband took the time to write a letter to Emory Leadership, praising Rebekah for her exemplary care: “Rebekah is a shining light of compassion, professionalism, and knowledge. Her incredible response time, patience, and kindness are greatly appreciated. She never makes us feel bad or uncomfortable for asking questions and always takes the time to listen and explain things in a way we can understand. It is so important for us to have a great team we can trust through this unfortunate process, and Rebekah has been nothing short of incredible in her support, information, and action. What an incredible, selfless person she is.”
Rebekah models empathy in every aspect of her nursing care. Her dedication and compassion are evident in how she connects with her patients and their families, ensuring that they feel supported and informed throughout their cancer journey. She has proven to be a constant source of comfort and guidance to those under her care.
Furthermore, Rebekah has consistently demonstrated a strong sense of teamwork and leadership. Over the past year, there have been several instances where additional support was needed within our clinic, particularly when someone was out. Without hesitation, Rebekah always stepped up to help, often volunteering to take on extra work without being asked. Her willingness to assist her colleagues speaks volumes about her selflessness and commitment to the team. She embodies the qualities of an exceptional nurse: skill, compassion, dedication, and selflessness. It is an honor to work alongside Rebekah, and I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
