A colleague nominated Rebekah, stating:

“It is with great admiration and gratitude that I nominate Rebekah Mercer, RN, CPEN, for the DAISY Educator Award. With over 13 years of nursing experience, Rebekah brings a wealth of clinical knowledge, a passion for education, and a heart for service that elevates the care we provide and the standards we uphold at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center.

Rebekah began her nursing career in adult medical-surgical care, where she built a strong clinical foundation before joining the CHKD Emergency Department. Her dedication to pediatric emergency care is further exemplified by her national certification as a Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). In recent years, she graciously stepped into the role of Education Specialist for the Trauma Program, embracing the position with professionalism and dedication.

In this role, Rebekah significantly impacted both staff and the community. She led vital injury prevention and outreach initiatives, providing resources such as car seats, helmets, gun locks, and Stop the Bleed education. Her work reflects a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of the children and families we serve.

Rebekah is a respected and approachable educator. She played a key role in the General Care Annual Education Updates for all CHKD RNs over the past several years, covering critical topics such as burn care, cervical spine precautions (C-spine/Bucks), and providing unique insights into what really happens in trauma bays. Her teaching is always practical, relevant, and deeply rooted in her frontline experience.

Rebekah has also served as the lead organizer of our health system’s annual Trauma Conference. This large-scale event, which she coordinated with incredible attention to detail and passion, ensured staff across the health system had access to high-quality trauma education.

Rebekah is known for her compassion, patience, and unwavering dedication. She goes above and beyond to ensure that all team members feel supported and prepared to care for our trauma patients. Whether she is leading a training session, answering a colleague’s question, or quietly working behind the scenes, Rebekah’s presence makes a lasting impact.

Rebekah Mercer exemplifies the spirit of nursing through her clinical excellence, educational leadership, and commitment to both her peers and the community. She is truly deserving of the DAISY Educator Award recognition.”

Thank you, Rebekah, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
