Reem Khalil, RN
I would like to recognize Mrs. Reem from 3 Children's in the Batson Tower.
I am a nursing student and was partnered with her as my preceptor for multiple rotations. I cannot begin to explain all that she has taught me. She shows compassion, patience, is a great teacher, and works with great passion.
She showed me how to handle stressful situations during increasing patient loads. She taught me how to think through different situations and explained why protocols are the way they are. She is an adamant rule follower and is committed to doing things the right way.
Mrs. Reem also inspires me to grow. Being from a different country and always wanting to come to America—but then actually doing it—is such a great leap of faith. She had to learn a different language not only for daily life but also for complex medical terminology. She remains humble and passionate about learning American culture so she can provide the best possible care for every patient.
She shows patience with herself and with her patients. Even though she had years of nursing experience in her home country, she was still willing to come to America and work with the humility of a newly graduated nurse. Despite all the hard work required, she remains encouraging, kind, and dedicated.
Through intentional determination, she has mastered protocols and performs procedures in the safest way possible. She consistently prioritizes patient safety and is adamant about cleanliness and infection prevention. She taught me why certain syringes are used with central lines and explained many important details that I might have otherwise overlooked. She always fully explained the rationale behind her actions, encouraging me not to simply take her word for it, but to research and understand the evidence for myself.
She continually advocated for her patients and their families, ensuring they received the best possible care.
I am so honored and thankful that I had the opportunity to learn under her, even for a short period of time.
I would be ecstatic for her to receive a DAISY Award, not only for her hard work, but also for her compassion, patience, dedication to others, and the honor and professionalism she brings to the nursing profession every day.
