November 2023 Honoree
Reena Mathew, RN
I, as a neonatal nurse practitioner, have been working with Reena for over 25 years. She provides quality patient care and demonstrates strong leadership as a senior nurse. I am able to write many stories. But I will describe a recent one. Premature twin infants were transferred from another hospital. Their mother was so distressed about the infants' conditions; twin A has an issue of respiratory distress, and twin B has a feeding intolerance issue. The mother was overwhelmed and showed inappropriate behaviors to Reena. However, Reena did not show any emotional impact on the mother. Reena continued to maintain a professional manner in providing nursing care to her babies. She demonstrated strong professional skills for routine admission assessment and infant care and excellent communication skills with the mother under stressful situations. Finally, the mother calmed down and tried to communicate with Reena.
Thank you, Reena, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
