Regina dressed in her COVID PPE and calmly went into the room to silence the alarms that were continually going and held the patient’s hand. She talked to him and let him know she would be there.
I witnessed something Tuesday that made me so very amazed and blessed to be part of this team. Our patient languished on Bipap throughout his COVID diagnosis. His family wanted nothing to do with him as far as a visit outside the room but would Zoom when he was able. He suffered on bipap before losing consciousness and being intubated d/t family wishes. On Tuesday, his heart rate spiked and he seemed to be in distress with a heart rate as high as 200. I wasn't his nurse but Regina asked her orientee, to call the family one last time; they still declined the visit and I was outside the room. Regina dressed in her COVID PPE and calmly went into the room to silence the alarms that were continually going and held the patient’s hand. She talked to him and let him know she would be there. He finally passed. It touched my heart to see her embodiment of compassion and kindness for another and was humbled by the experience.
