July 2026 Honoree
Regina Prendergast 2, RN
I'm nominating Gina Prenderdast because her compassion and amazing work ethic are contagious. There was a night in our ED when we had high acuity and census patient loads coming in continuously. We were all stretched thin and very busy through the entire shift. During this night, Gina had a patient who was a DNI/DNR. While we didn't anticipate them passing any time soon, as we all know, our body decides when it's time to go.
This patient declined pretty rapidly during the height of the chaos in our department. We did not have much time to offer our patients this night, not like we wanted to. However, Gina made it a point to go into that patient's room and hold his hand as he died. She still had patients who needed her very much at that time, but someone else needed her more at that moment. The patient's family was out of town, so Gina went in to be with him and displayed the compassion she shows to every patient. Her words were "no one should die alone". She is an amazing role model and the true definition of a DAISY Nurse. \
Our nurses look up to her every shift, and in that moment I especially did. She made me slow down and appreciate the teamwork and compassion that my coworkers provide our patients. Gina is the example of the kind of nurse I want to be and whom I want my coworkers to emulate.
Note: This is Gina's 2nd DAISY Award!
