Regina’s advocacy for my mother-in-law was so refreshing, and it was so nice to see that nurses can still have empathy after all they must see and do.
I only met Regina for a short period of time, but I wanted to thank her for outstanding patient care and patient advocacy.

My mother-in-law was admitted to the ER for complications surrounding a rhinovirus infection. My mother-in-law has dementia, diabetes and is generally unwell. This bout with illness had exacerbated her hallucinations and her actions to those of a combative child.

Her other nurses throughout the day were kind to her but she had a combative situation with an ultrasound tech, which caused the tech to be hesitant to treat my mother-in-law. When Regina took over during the night shift, she was very kind and understanding of her dementia diagnosis and inability to understand.

Regina was giving a general exam upon entering her room and when she found that her gown was wet and ultrasound gel still present on some of her skin, she brought in help to completely change her into new undergarments and a gown. She was able to speak to my mother-in-law in a way that she allowed Regina to help her.

She explained things to my mother-in-law in a way that she could understand. She ensured that my mother-in-law was completely clean, checked skin abrasions, and made sure they were properly documented. She also ensured that her medical device to catch urine, was properly placed.

She was so gentle with my mother-in-law, and so reassuring that she was able to fall fast asleep, which she was unable to do all day. Regina’s advocacy for my mother-in-law was so refreshing, and it was so nice to see that nurses can still have empathy after all they must see and do.

Her kindness did not go unnoticed, and her high level of care put our whole family at ease as we left my mother-in-law at the hospital for an overnight stay.

Thank you so much, Regina! I hope more nurses can care for their patients as you do.
