The first time she entered my room, she said said "Hi,” and called me by my name. That’s when I knew I was recognized as a person and not a patient.
When she and I have conversations, she will say my name, and that lifts my spirits because it's like she has known me for a long time. There are times when she has teased me to make me laugh, and that is what I need. She will tell me when she is coming back late at night to do my vitals or get me a pain pill, so I don’t get startled.
Every time she leaves my room, she’ll ask, “Is there anything I can get you or do for you?” To some people this may seem like nothing, but it’s small things that make all the difference.
She has a warm, sincere, compassionate, caring personality that rings true for her care of others. If anyone deserves an award, it’s my angel nurse!
