During a complex surgical case, things suddenly took a turn and became a life-threatening emergency. I was in the room when it happened, and this OR nurse was an amazing leader and advocate for this patient. Reilin stayed calm when everything felt chaotic and jumped in to serve as the leader and go-to person in the room for what ended up being a multidisciplinary and system situation to manage.

Reilin helped organize the flow of communication to the major events that needed attention. Reilin jumped in wherever help was needed, supporting anesthesia, helping the ER MD get IV access, coordinating blood quickly, tracking down supplies, and making sure another surgeon got to the room right away. Everyone looked to Reilin for direction, and she did a great job keeping the team organized and communicating what needed to happen.

Reilin participated in a team debrief, where important feedback was shared regarding things that went well and opportunities for improvement. Reilin’s leadership, teamwork, and ability to keep things moving during such a high-stress situation made a significant difference, and it’s exactly why she is DAISY Honoree.
