Reilly was a part of the transport team in charge of taking my patient from BMT to his hometown in Georgia. This transport was extremely complex and involved a lot of people and logistics. Reilly acted as an amazing advocate for my patient and his family, though she had never even met them. It was my patient's last wish to make it home, and it was unknown how much time he would have left with us. Reilly sought out every different scenario for how we could get him home, and even waited on our unit until the plan was finalized. At one point, when many of the transport options had failed, Reilly offered herself to accompany him on a drive to Georgia. This was so above and beyond her call of duty. She truly cared that my patient got his final wish. Reilly is an amazing nurse with a caring and compassionate attitude. She truly wanted to change the outcome for this family. I am so thankful for Reilly and everything she did for my patient during her time with him.
Once on the route to the airport, Reilly connected with the mother and child. She pointed out an opportunity to the patient to see a helicopter take off right in front of him. It meant so much to the patient's mother that her son got to see this take place in what could be his final minutes to hours of life. Reilly knew what that family and child needed, and was there to do anything she could to help them be at peace.
Reilly was attentive to the patient during the transfer from BMT to the ambulance. She kept him informed as to what they were doing, even though he wasn't responding. She also educated the family as to what to expect during the transfer.
Reilly positioned my patient with great care, knowing he was very sensitive to everything. She kept him at ease and ensured he knew he was going home.
The nurse did everything she could to keep the wishes of the family. It was incredibly important to them at this time since they didn't know how long they had left with their son. She put the family first, and that was so obvious. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
