I had an emergency surgery due to a placental abruption, and it was one of the most intense and emotional moments of my life. While the medical team was doing their jobs, many of the interactions felt very clinical and rushed, which made an already vulnerable moment feel even harder. However, my nurse made a huge difference in my experience. She made me feel safe, respected, and cared for during such an intimate and frightening time. Even though my surgery is a medical procedure, it is also an incredibly emotional and spiritual moment for a mother. My nurse understood that. Her compassion, calm presence, and the way she treated me as a person, not just a patient, meant everything. In a moment where I could have felt completely overwhelmed, she helped me feel grounded and protected. We truly need more nurses like her. I will never forget the comfort and care she gave me during one of the most important moments of my life.
