That was it, I was in his trance, in his care I knew the remainder of my stay would be protected by Rene with his generosity and thoughtfulness.
I had an extremely complicated, precise, intricate full reconstructed neck surgery that required a team of specialists. To say I was petrified of my hospital experience is an understatement. This all during a time of uncertainty and tremendous fears surrounding the deadly virus COVID-19.
I was in pain, concerned about my recovery, living alone within my fears, and visitors not allowed. I was out of my element, not being able to do the simplest things. Crawling out of my skin. Then Rene appeared with his great heart showing caring and attentiveness, and immediately my spirits lifted. He was a great communicator with efficiency and wonderful compassion in all his actions. My personal goal was to tolerate the pain and wean off the opioids. I wanted to be aware of my surroundings and alert, not drugged and certainly not dependent. Rene created a conservative plan with his clinical expertise to manage my pain effectively. Essentially, I was putting my recovery in his hands, which speaks volumes of how confident I was in his abilities.
He made an incredibly stressful time bearable with his innate ability to connect on a personal level. By speaking to me in his beautiful inviting voice and asking all the correct questions he knew exactly how to brighten my day and ease my uncomfortableness. He quickly, with his empathetic ability, gathered all the necessary products to wash my entire surgery region with warm soapy water tenderly, treating me like I was his family member, a dear close friend, with so much kindheartedness and humanity. Rene exemplifies what a nurse should be. He is an inspiration to all nurses all over the world. In fact. he raised the bar, there is no other! His concern, positive attitude, and bedside demeanor were exceptional. He was professional, yet managing to also show superb warmth, these are the qualifications of the perfect nurse!
