I am pleased to nominate one of my Breast Nurse Navigators, Renee’ Herman, for The DAISY Award. She is outstanding at her job and has an extensive wealth of knowledge in nursing, patient care, case management, and breast cancer patient navigation. She is a dynamic individual that possesses many admirable characteristics constituting an exemplary associate and an excellent nurse. She has exceptional intellectual ability and maturity that allows her to make critical decisions when educating a patient about their cancer diagnosis and what they can expect. Renee’ has earned great respect from the breast program providers and team for her impeccable communication, advocating for her patients, problem-solving skills, and decision-making. Her passion, ability to motivate others, and commitment to high-quality care is inspiring to all.

When I hired Renee’ in May of 2019, she didn’t have any previous navigator experience and I’ll be the first to admit that I was a bit nervous. However, from day one in her role, she has hit the ground running and educated herself by attending conferences, reaching out to her peers from other facilities to shadow, asking the providers questions, and performing her own research. Renee’ lives and breathes our CRISSIE values and most importantly, she strives to be a good person and is successful in doing so. She dedicates as much time as needed to her patients and oftentimes, their families, to ensure they feel comfortable, to educate them about their diagnosis, and answer any questions they may have. Renee’ has also escorted her patients to imaging and infusion appointments to provide them with support and comfort. She is consistently their biggest advocate and works tirelessly to ensure they get everything they need.

Renee’ is an integral part of our team and she thrives on assisting and helping others. Her calming demeanor, compassion, and kindness are appreciated by her patients and their families, and the providers have complete faith and trust in her ability to care for their patients. Words cannot express how blessed I am to have her on my team.
