While taking care of an elderly patient on a weekend for a hip fracture in the OR, Renee volunteered to help with transport and induction of anesthesia due to limited staffing. The patient had severe hypotension in the OR and we experienced monitor failure in a critical situation. Renee was invaluable as she very efficiently helped troubleshoot and retrieve backup monitors, change EKG pads and provide a constant finger on a central pulse to provide feedback as I was free to draw up emergency medications and treat based on her report. The patient was diagnosed with acute MI, which she recovered from thanks to prompt treatment, which without Renee's superb knowledge, experience and assistance, the patient may not have recovered. She made a true difference.

Special Note: Renee is married to a nurse (Gary Nestrick) who was a past recipient of the DAISY at another facility.
