Our daughter wrote her a thank you note and made her a bracelet before we left the hospital. I hope Renee knows how much she made our life better in such an unimaginable situation.
My daughter is ten years old, and we went into the hospital through the ED on a Thursday morning. She was in DKA and was ultimately diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. On Friday morning, we were officially admitted to the hospital, but no rooms were available, and we had to stay in the ED until a room was available. This is where we met Renee.

She came to our room and introduced herself and explained what would be happening going forward. She then came back with educational materials and taught me, her dad, and my daughter how to take care of her diabetes going forward. She sat with us for hours that day to make sure that we fully understood everything so we could leave the hospital faster. But once we were informed that we had to stay another night, Renee spent time figuring out how to get us a room ASAP because our daughter started having really bad anxiety in the ED.

Once we got into a room Friday evening and settled in, things became easier for our daughter. The next day, Saturday, Renee was working on the unit, and she requested us as her patients for the day so she could continue to help us prepare to go home. She answered all our questions and helped our daughter understand how to manage her diabetes. Renee made our daughter understand in the terms of a 10-year-old. She also made sure that we were 100% comfortable with leaving the hospital and managing her diagnosis at home. She provided learning materials, answered ALL my questions, and spent the time we needed with her to feel comfortable going home. I feel like Renee went above and beyond not only to make sure we, as parents, were comfortable taking care of her but also to help our daughter feel comfortable with her new diagnosis.

Our daughter has spoken about Renee many times over the past few months and how she was so grateful for such an amazing nurse in her time of need! She wrote her a thank you note and made her a bracelet before we left the hospital. I hope Renee knows how much she made our life better in such an unimaginable situation. I really want to recognize Renee because she was so amazing to us, and I know that she is that way for many other patients and families, too. She gives her all every day and cares so much for her patients. She deserves a BIG thank you in the best way possible!
