I was in severe pain, and had IV pain meds ordered, but no IV. Renee asserted herself to the House Doctor and insisted on new orders for pain meds until my IV was re-established (11 hours later). She managed to get a 24 gauge IV in my thumb that gave me relief for 2 hours while I waited for a more permanent IV. She let me vent, cry, and get angry; then she channeled that anger into more positive thoughts, and encouraged guided imagery as a method of pain control. I don’t know how I would have gotten through this night if not for Renee.
