Renee Thompson's nominator pointed to her ability to "make a connection with her patients and their families quickly, and with skilled ease. Within moments you can see people breathe easier."
"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be the recipient of an award like this because this is just my personality, this is just who I am, and I just never thought what I did was exceptional in any way," said Thompson. Her positive "can do" attitude was one of the many characteristics highlighted by her nominator and echoed by other colleagues. "Renee is a bright, happy, enthusiastic personality, and is just one of the most caring people I know."
This recognition has had a profound impact on Thompson. "It's made me realize that people do notice and it does make a difference," she said. Having her colleague nominate her was a great honor. "I can't put into words what I'd like to say to her. She doesn't understand the impact that it's made on my life. It sounds kind of silly, but it's given me a renewed sense of confidence and the ability to go and do other things that I've always wanted to do."
