My hospitalization was absolutely terrifying, being 32 and a nurse myself, my anxiety was getting the best of me. Renee was a nurse I had never met, but as soon as she introduced herself, I knew she was special. She had a demeanor that eased my fear and made me feel confident in who was taking care of me. I know that I required a lot of attention and reassuring, but when Renee was on shift, I honestly felt like I was the only patient she had. I know she was busy taking exceptional care of her other patients, but every time I had to call or just needed to be reassured, I never felt like a burden. Late one night, I was struggling with pain and anxiety, lots of tears were shed by both me and my husband. She left the room after medicating me and immediately came back and asked if it would be okay to pray with me. She sat on my bed, we all held hands and she prayed for peace, healing, and comfort. It was the nicest thing that I had encountered during my wonderful stay. I slept through the night that night. It's nurses like Renee who aren't scared to step out of their comfort zone, who make a difference in patient care. She was my nurse all 3 nights and I am so thankful for her patience, kindness, and professionalism. Her heart is truly in nursing. Thank you, Renee, for helping me through a tough, scary time. Your hard work and heart of gold did not go unnoticed.
