She also helped institute improved communication between inpatient teams by contributing to consultant sign-off documentation and leading by example to ensure rapid adoption of this tool.
Renita has been an NP in our section for almost five years and has brought a wealth of experience, dedication to improving patient care, and expertise to our practice, with continuous benefits to our patients.

She is an APP on the Orthopedic Trauma Service that has experienced exponential growth since January 2023. Compared to 2022, the volume of patients cared for by the OTS increased by 24%, with surgeries for orthopedic injuries increasing by 61%. She was critical to the effective care of this increased volume as a more experienced APP; she provided excellent care while also coaching and training less experienced PAs to accommodate the drastic increase in patient volume.

She has been heavily involved in hospital-wide efforts to improve GMLOS. She collaborated with the Hospitalist Service to refine order sets for geriatric hip fractures, thereby minimizing the risk of delirium and improving pain control, which would otherwise prolong patient stays in the hospital. She also helped institute improved communication between inpatient teams by contributing to consultant sign-off documentation and leading by example to ensure rapid adoption of this tool.

Finally, Renita has led the effort to start a Geriatric Fracture Clinic for follow-up of inpatients treated by the OTS. She utilized her expert training to develop a pro forma to support this effort, recognizing the impact on fracture prevention in Central Minnesota. Her research identified over 1000 patients who could benefit each year. She built upon her work on inpatient hip fracture care and opened the GFC in January 2025. She has already evaluated over 30 patients, focusing on global bone health and fracture reduction, in addition to providing postoperative care. Over 50% of her patients have correctible disorders that she has initiated and coordinated treatment. Additionally, she has spent approximately 30 minutes with each patient educating them on bone health strategies, treatment options, and fracture prevention.

Renita Weeks is a highly skilled CNP with an uncommon ability and drive to institute new, comprehensive care pathways to improve population health.
