Renji is one of the kindest most caring nurses I have on my team. He once had a patient who was celebrating a birthday during her stay. During a commit to sit, he was getting to know her and realized she had a birthday the next day. He also discovered she was a long-time nurse who was very independent and still lived alone. She really wanted to go home but was still requiring hospital-level care.

After this conversation with the patient, and working all night, Renji decided to make this patient's birthday a celebration! He left his shift and went to Publix to get her a beautiful cake covered in fresh fruit. He then returned to the hospital to deliver it to this special patient. The patient was so overwhelmed with gratitude because she didn’t have anyone else to recognize her birthday. Renji also bought a card that the entire unit signed to make this patient’s birthday a little more bright. Renji definitely went above and beyond!
