Resa never hesitates to pitch in, from starting IVs to cleaning up a patient. She exemplifies teamwork by fighting for us to float to our sister units to assist them with their staffing needs before offering us to adult floors.
Resa is the manager of the Children's floor/PICU. On a Sunday night, the staff was very busy with patient care. We had multiple admissions coming. The tube system was down which meant we frequently had to walk to pharmacy or lab. And we did not have a tech scheduled that night. There was a PICU admission pending in the ED but both nurses in PICU already had their hands full with their current patients. We were unable to pull a nurse back to the unit so the AOD stated that the patient would have to wait downstairs. Our manager, Resa, was called at home and notified of our current situation around 9 pm. Without hesitation, she put on her scrubs and came to work. She admitted the patient to PICU so they could be provided optimal care. She helped the rest of the nurses and patients/families with whatever was needed without complaint. She stayed all night with us despite having already been up all day with her grandson.

Resa became our manager at the end of 2019, she came in behind a manager who had been with us for almost 50 years. Coming in behind someone that has had a position for that long could be challenging but Resa came in and has really made a difference on our unit. She is a manager who listens to her staff and takes action. When you have an issue, she has an open door and is easy to approach. She ensures that our needs are met and makes every effort to resolve any issues we may have. She has, on several occasions, come in on the night shift to take patients when our staffing was short. She also is the first to lend a helping hand on the day shift when she sees we are struggling and in need of help. She never hesitates to pitch in, from starting IVs to cleaning up a patient. She also exemplifies teamwork by fighting for us to float to our sister units to assist them with their staffing needs before offering us to adult floors.
Resa has shown such leadership through this recent unprecedented time dealing with COVID. She has kept us up to date on the ever-changing recommendations, visitor policies, and everything we need to know to keep us safe. Even when the news of some changes are not good ones, she presents them with a positive attitude and it is infectious.
