This transition has had many bumps along way, but it did not stop her from helping those who needed the help and staying positive along the way. Her professionalism, kind heart, and enthusiastic personality make it so easy to work with her, which, in turn, helps staff feel supported and appreciated working alongside her and in her departments.
Resi truly places the NM mission of Patients First at the center of her work each day.  She extends her reach to all hospital departments and facilitates workflow and role clarification, from NOL to Labor and Delivery to Inpatient to Surgical Services and beyond.  This important works allows for our teams to consistently work better together.  Resi never shys away from a crucial conversation, instead she navigates and includes all players to ensure voices are heard and decisions are made and acted upon.

Resi is a natural leader – taking on lead roles for the My Time Go Live and implementation of the Departure Lounge – navigating challenging waters and working closely with both managers and staff alike to ensure the smoothest implementation whenever she is involved.

Her team shares below their sentiments of how it feels to have a leader like Resi…
Resi brings a positive attitude no matter the busyness of her or her staff’s day, which does positively affect how the staff responds.

Resi listens to her staff, does attempt to provide what they are requesting or what they need.  Staff verbalize that they are happy with her as their manager without prompting.

Resi is an excellent multi-tasker.

As a manager, Resi will find an opportunity for you to excel in your nursing career. As a night shifter, she always checks in on me and communicates with me.

As a member of float pool, she has continuously collaborated with the float pool team to discuss and adjust ways to improve how we navigate through the entire F1 Boarders process. She listens to our suggestions (and complaints).

On a personal note, when I experienced probably the worst shift of my career last April, she was very empathetic to my feelings and knew I was beating myself up over the incident. She kept herself available to talk, even over the weekend.  Rather than treating me like an employee, she made me feel like a friend or family member.

Resi is very flexible and is very good at checking up on us and walking to all the units we work in just to say hi. She listens to us and helps us find solutions. I know that she advocates for us. She is very respectful and willing to provide support, and I can trust her to be honest with me. She has done an amazing job of expanding our staff. She allows us to grow by encouraging us to train in other areas and help out other departments/units.

Resi entered the NOL/Float Pool/Venous Access departments during a rocky transition of having recently lost the NOL manager, a few NOLs, Venous Access Staff, and almost all of the float pool, which includes Nurses and PCTs. Resi jumped right into the role, an outside hire, not familiar with any staff, or the institution here at Lake Forest, and went full steam ahead to work. She was attentive, eager, enthusiastic, and motivated us all to continue to push through the ups and downs the departments were going through, assuring us brighter days ahead, and they sure did come! With the leadership skills that she brought to our departments, she was able to once again fully staff the NOL department, the venous access team, and fully staff the float pool team, to the most staff I have personally seen in float pool in my last 5 years here, with 13 RNs and 24, and counting, PCTs. She has helped collaborate with multiple departments, from L&D to Surgery, to help streamline some of the processes that we had in place to make them smoother and more efficient. She recently took on the role of overseeing the staffing department (yes, more departments!) and has helped many managers, staff, and ancillary departments with our transition to MyTime. This transition has had many bumps along way, but it did not stop her from helping those who needed the help and staying positive along the way. Her professionalism, kind heart, and enthusiastic personality make it so easy to work with her, which, in turn, helps staff feel supported and appreciated working alongside her and in her departments. Not only is she a great leader, but she is also a friend to us all. Whether we need to talk about changing schedules or advancing our careers, to discussing how hurt we are that we missed the volunteer service dogs for the day, or how we need to hurry to the café because they have the pineapple strawberry water available, she is someone we can all count on, trust, and you can sense the mutual respect she has for her teams as well. I could go on for days discussing how much of a positive impact her leadership has brought, not only to our departments and to Lake Forest as a whole but to all the lives that she has touched along the way. She is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.

From a bedside nurse:
-  As the manager of the float pool team, she makes sure to visit all her staff on every single unit they are assigned to.
-  During her rounds, not only does she ask how the shift is going, but she also makes the time to get to know her staff on a personal level. Her acknowledgement of her staff members' lives outside of work shows how compassionate and engaged she is in understanding every individual in her team.
-  Members from the float pool team have mentioned how responsive Resi is with her ability to communicate and advocate for the team. She relays concerns to other units' managers and staff members. Knowing that the team is supported, and solutions are created contributes to the team's high retention and satisfaction rates.
-  She's able to help her staff embrace all the changes that have this been implemented (e.g. shift transitioning from 6-6 to 7-7; MyTime; parking structure; F1 boarders and D2/D3 hallway patients). She makes sure that her team are aware of these changes and explain any new processes.
-   Although being a float pool nurse may be difficult by having to adapt to different environments, patients, and team every shift, Resi is highly motivational and encourages her staff grow towards their professional goals.
-  Over 75% of the PCTs are enrolled in school towards health care; she has done an amazing working with them around their schedules and ensuring they have a good work-school balance.
The nurses on her team are very diverse and versatile in their skill sets.
-   She allows the nurses to cross-train to other departments (e.g., ICU and ED), thus being able to support those units as needed.
-   Some of the nurses help as NOLs, bed-planners, and charge nurses.
-   She has been extremely supportive of her new grad nurses. She has even made efforts to collaborate with NM staff members who work as clinical instructors to encourage future new grads to consider being in float pool.

Although she has not been a manager long at NM LFH, Resi's knowledge and years of experience have positively impacted the growth of the float pool team and venous access team. Not only does she focus on her department, but she also immerses herself in collaborative work with other units/departments. I believe that Resi is truly a DAISY Nurse Leader.
