I have been to many healthcare facilities, and I have never had a nurse give me such good care. She went above and beyond, and I wasn't even her patient.
I came to Good Shepherd Hospital for an outpatient procedure. I also have a colostomy, and because I had been in a rehabilitation place to get help with my foot, I had not reordered my colostomy supplies in a timely manner. I ran out of bags and could not replace my bag, which was leaking. I decided to go without a bag and showed up to the hospital with a towel wrapped around my middle, hoping they would be able to give me new supplies and attach a new bag at the hospital. I was unaware that since I was coming for a cardiac procedure, the staff did not know anything about my colostomy needs. My first nurse was trying to figure out how to get me help when Charge Nurse Revie Pioquinto heard her on the phone and asked how she could help. Before we knew it, she had gotten some colostomy bags, cleaned me, and put a new bag on. I told her what size to cut, and she said that would be too small...after she put the new-sized one on, it didn't leak anymore! She told me I had been cutting them too big. She gave me lots of instructions and even supplied me with some precut new bags so that I wouldn't have to go without them before my order arrived next week. She also left messages for a follow-up with wound care and gave me home health resource information so that I could continue to get good care after I left the hospital. She even found me a pair of pants to wear home so I wouldn't have to wear the pants I had soiled on the way to the hospital that morning. She also continued to check on me after my procedure and made sure I had someone spending the night with me. I have been to many healthcare facilities, and I have never had a nurse give me such good care. She went above and beyond, and I wasn't even her patient.
