My 69-year-old grandmother presented to the ER with signs and symptoms common with a stroke. She was very nervous and scared when she first got to the ER, and Rheanna Siebert was her triage nurse. She explained everything thoroughly and made us feel comfortable and safe in knowing she would take adequate care of my grandmother. We could tell the ER was extremely busy, but we barely noticed any difference in my grandmother’s care from Rheanna. I am in the nursing program at Arkansas State University and I was asking her a lot of questions about the “why” and “how” of what she was doing for my grandmother to gain further knowledge. She answered each question in detail (and with a smile). From the second I started speaking with her, I realized that she is the perfect role model for what a nurse is, and how a nurse should act. She updated us frequently on what was going to happen, came any time we called, and every time we didn't call, we still needed her. She made a person-to-person connection with my grandmother as well as us, her family. She made our experience at St. Bernards better from the second we arrived. She is the true definition of a nurse and what a nurse stands for. If something were to happen and anyone in my family needed to be taken care of in the future, she would be the first person we’d ask to be put with. Even though Rheanna was my grandmother’s triage nurse, and we only had her for a few short hours, she stood out more than anything as a nurse with a true passion for her field and a true “want” to help others. We are so thankful we had her for the short time we did! Anyone who has Rheanna as a nurse is very lucky and will get the exact care they need and more! I honestly could not think of another person more deserving of this award!
