Rhonda Rodriguez cared for a very sick newborn that had been transferred from Nicholas Children's Hospital to our NICU to receive proton therapy at Miami Cancer Institute; this baby was diagnosed in utero with neuroblastoma.
This baby required 1:1 nursing and the family was not local. It was the Holidays and Rhonda went out of her way to get as many resources for the family as possible.
The mom was not working, is a single mom, and has another small child. She barely had money to drive from her hotel here to be with the baby and was scared to leave his side, as he was so unstable. They had disconnected her cell phone due to her inability to pay.
Rhonda worked hard to start a collection and was able to gather $500 dollars to assist this single mom, all while working and providing excellent care to the baby. Her commitment to Family-Centered Care is truly exemplary.
