A patient was very frightened and combative. The patient's primary language was Spanish and he would not use the language line for interpretation and communication. Rich was able to communicate with the patient. Rich sat face to face with the patient, explained the treatment and what the health care team were doing. Rich stayed with the patient and assisted the ICU staff and physician to continue to communicate. Most importantly he assisted the patient and was able to keep him calm and assist him in his time of crisis.
