Richard Cooper, RN
Richard cared for my dad on the day he died in the AICU at the LRI. It was already an extraordinary situation to be in as we expected Dad to recover from his operation, but he deteriorated and required ventilation. This was heightened as my role within UHL was that of lead nurse for Palliative/EOLC.
Richard not only cared for Dad with the utmost nursing skills but also cared for my mum, brother, and me with compassion and feeling. Richard recognized the challenge between my job and being with Dad and offered me the opportunity to add to Dad's care as he died. Richard was the best person to be with us at that time, giving in equal measure support and space. My mum, brother, and I would like to thank him from the bottom of our hearts for what he did for us and Dad that day.
