Rick was preparing a patient for discharge late afternoon when he realized the patient did not have shoes. The patient could not remember where he last saw his boots and believed they were lost for good. This patient was to be discharged to the motel where he resides without his only pair of shoes. This did not sit well with Rick. He could not send this patient home without shoes to wear. Rick clocked out after a long 12-hour day and purchased this patient a new pair of boots, then brought them back to the hospital so the patient had them prior to being picked up by transport. Rick truly went about and beyond to help this patient in need.
