Rick motivated and accompanied me on 3 walks a day. He was so encouraging at such a tough time.
Thank you to Rick ICU RN vascular side on floor 2. I was admitted for four days and I checked out happily better to suffer at home! Never did I think I would leave the ICU unit and be sad. That's because my RN was on 12-hour shifts all the days I was there, and he made my visit, or he made my surgery? Anyway, this young man is at the top. Never had anyone looked after me with such care and honest concern. My surgery was serious but with Rick around somehow it was less than it would have been. I have a pretty big mouth and even on anesthesia I can try to crack people up, so Rick got me, and I got him. The laughter was abundant in my room. He took care of every pill, every pillow movement. Motivated and accompanied me on 3 walks a day. He was so encouraging at such a tough time. Laughter is always welcome (well not so much at the moment), and laugh we did. I totally looked forward to his head popping in and out all day, and when the shift change came, he never left until he had informed the next shift about what I needed. A cool room, doesn't sleep in bed needs recliner, beware he has a mouth! Rick actually stayed later than his shift, and, on the eve they sent me to a regular room Rick moved me up and stayed until the move was complete making sure I was ok. Seriously! At 67 I found that he restored my faith in the younger generation! So, home I am a week later still talking about him and how he made my stay in ICU actually pleasant. My husband spent the days with me in ICU and felt so secure going to the hotel at night knowing I was so well looked after, and yes, we both miss the guy and his way. Thanks so much to such a wonderful hospital and staff.
