Our patient had been hospitalized for four weeks. One day Ricky was assigned as their nurse. Ricky noticed that they were more withdrawn and depressed than previously. Ricky arranged and made sure that they were taken outside to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine, something they had not done in 4 weeks. There was an immediate improvement in the patient’s demeanor, they were smiling the entire time we were outside. Ricky did not stop there. The patient’s appetite had been poor. Ricky asked them if there was one thing they could eat what would it be, and the patient stated that they had been craving Shepherd’s pie. Ricky made sure it was okay for the patient to have Shepherd’s pie, then he ordered and had Shepherd’s pie delivered for the patient. They were ecstatic! They were smiling from ear to ear while they ate their Shepherd’s pie. They stated, “It has been the best day”. The patient and their spouse were so thankful and verbalized great appreciation for Ricky.

This is just one of many examples of how Ricky cares for his patients. He goes above and beyond to not only ensure his patients are cared for clinically but mentally and emotionally as well. He is truly an asset to the medical field and to HCA Florida-North Florida Hospital.
