Nurse Rico was exceptionally professional, caring, and was a wonderful person. His compassion towards my father was excellent.
Nurse Rico's letter is overdue because my father was under his care during the initial visit for the amputation of his foot. During that stay, he went so far above and beyond the call of duty in providing amazing care for my father, that he without a doubt deserves to be honored. What could have been one of the worst experiences at Henry Ford Hospital did not end badly. Nurse Rico was “just as good at the end, as he was at the beginning”.
Let us share, why we are taking time to share our experience with Rico after spending fourteen hours here today. Today, during the morning shift change, he welcomed my father back and acknowledged that he had cared for him during the early visit. He picked up where he left off by listening, educating, problem-solving, and delivering great clinical care and commitment to excellence. He was positive with an upbeat, can-do attitude, and an all-around professional. He put a smile on my father’s face and mine as well.
Nurse Rico was welcoming the first time we saw him and again today! He was exceptionally professional, caring, and was a wonderful person. His compassion towards my father was excellent. He always went out of his way to accommodate the needs of my father. Nurse Rico is the consummate professional nurse as I observed his care, attention to detail, and quickly resolving the problem when he transitioned into his shift. My dad and I needed to speak with the vascular surgeon on the morning of his shift change. Had not it been for his quick thinking, my father would not have gone into surgery today, which was critical. He cared for his patient and made a major difference. The consultation had been requested the night before but did not occur with the family. However, Nurse Rico addressed the person who arrived to pick up the patient, see other patients, addressing my father's immediate clinical needs at the time, texting/calling the vascular team, etc. Nurse Rico was clearly advocating on behalf of my family! He got the matter resolved, and my father signed the necessary paperwork and once again scheduled in for surgery. We later learned that Nurse Rico even took time to escort a family member to the waiting room versus delegating it to someone else.
Nurse Rico made what was starting off a terrible day a better one. Without hesitation, I trust Nurse Rico Berrios with my father's life! He was the most compassionate and caring person we could ever have asked to care for Dad.
