Riley holds a special place in my heart and was the primary nurse and advocate for my son. He did an amazing job with him and and followed up with me afterward to see if everything was okay.
2022 has yet to be one of the hardest years I’ve faced with 2023 starting off with the loss of my sister. While my sister could not be saved, there is still so much to be grateful for & one thing I’ve had on my heart is the gratitude for my fellow co-workers.

In January of 2022, my son, 12, accidentally ate a chocolate chip bar with traces of cashews. We knew he had a peanut allergy and nuts, but cashews were far worse. I gave him his Epi-pen & Benadryl, and got him to the Monticello emergency room. Quickly, they had him into a room, and IV started. Two nurses were fast to recognize his needs. They gave him more epi, and fluids and monitored him closely. His B/P was dropping, he looked flushed and quickly I am told we are going lights and sirens to Children's. Once there, he is pale, GI symptoms begin, and he faints & in that moment, the deepest fear sets in that he might not be ok. We are then admitted to the ICU, he is hooked up to IV medications. It’s hard to watch & each time we attempted to wean him; he went back into a full anaphylactic reaction.

Flash forward, he is okay, 6 days in the hospital & he counted 16 pokes. I need to point out the amazing care and swiftness of the Monticello ER. Riley Foster did a wonderful job with my son as his primary. Riley explained everything to my son and advocated for swift care and transfer. He was on his way to Children’s within 45 minutes of arrival to the ER.

Flash forward, to the beginning of December, my friend arrived to the ER with her boyfriend, 42 years old. Symptoms of chest discomfort started around 4:30/5 pm. Upon arrival & just after checking in, he collapsed at the front desk. My friend hit the floor 2 weeks out from her knee surgery. In retrospect, was going to start CPR. Yelling for help, the staff at Monticello ran to them and started care immediately. Another staff brought my friend back to the family room to be with her while her boyfriend was getting lifesaving care & called me. Riley Foster started the compressions; the physician and the team were able to revive him; he was talking prior to transfer. He is doing well today. Thank you for not only caring for him but recognizing she needed someone too.

The Monticello ER staff stabilized 2 people I care about this year. I work alongside this team, and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for all of you. Grateful for your skill, your compassion, your wisdom & dedication. I am honored to work alongside you and learn from you.

Riley holds a special place in my heart and was the primary nurse and advocate for my son. He did an amazing job with him and and followed up with me afterward to see if everything was okay. He was present for both events; he also, performed chest compressions on my best friend’s boyfriend, he is excited Riley didn’t break any of his ribs as well as grateful for his life! I’ve worked alongside Riley for a couple of years now, you can see that he cares, he has a natural skill for the ER. He is an amazing nurse!
