Riley is incredibly intelligent. Yes, you have to be in that line of work, but his intelligence, coupled with his confidence level and his personality, just really makes him the whole package. He is THE nurse that everyone should model themselves after.
In reading what the DAISY Award stands for, my family wholeheartedly would like to nominate Riley Hoffmann, ICU nurse, for this prestigious award. Riley was the nurse the first night after our mom’s aneurysm coil and clipping surgery and again during a couple of other shifts throughout her time in the ICU. Throughout our time with Riley, he showed over and over again his commitment to excellence and care. He was with our mom during the darkest, most critical days. His consistent, frequent, ongoing checks and comforting demeanor were exactly what we needed during those hours, days, and long overnights. Every single time an alarm went off, a machine would beep, a call needed answering, and he was in the room instantly. Throughout the time with our mom in the ICU, we saw many nurses. Most were great, but nobody had the speed and level of urgency that Riley did. Riley was attentive, professional, respectful, and kind. Always. His demeanor was calming. He didn’t just answer the (endless) questions we had, he explained things in a way we understood, and made sure we understood. He was always patient with us. Our family had a lot of questions and concerns, and he took everyone to heart. He made time for us and never rushed us. He has a way of mirroring energies, and he can really read a room. When we were solemn, he was supportive. When we were scared, he was comforting. When we were cheerful, he was right there with us, with a big smile and a joke to keep us laughing. He made us feel like he was caring for his own family member. In fact, we “adopted” him as an unofficial family member. The sisters in our group jokingly called ourselves “the sisters he never had.” After his first shift with our mom, it was several days until he was our nurse again. When he came in the room to start his shift after a few days off, we literally jumped up and down because we were so elated to see him and overjoyed that he was going to be caring for our mom again. Riley is incredibly intelligent. Yes, you have to be in that line of work, but his intelligence, coupled with his confidence level and his personality, just really makes him the whole package. He is THE nurse that everyone should model themselves after. The way Riley talked to other staff and the people he was training was always respectful, professional, and kind. Riley was a guardian angel to us and to our mother, and we will forever be thankful and grateful that he was such an integral part of our mom's recovery. I have no doubt in my mind that Riley was the right nurse at the right place at the right time to ensure she got world-class care and attention when she needed it the most. And it's because of Riley and the rest of the ICU staff, that our mother is still with us today. Truly, words cannot convey the level of respect, appreciation, and pure gratitude we have for Riley. I want to emphasize again that Riley Hoffmann is the nurse that every nurse should strive to be. Please award Riley Hoffmann with the DAISY Award, as we feel, as an entire family of someone that spent a lot of time in the ICU, that he is the absolute most deserving human being of such a prestigious award, and should be honored as such.
