Riley does a fantastic job as House Supervisor. Still, on this day, he exceeded expectations by advocating for a patient, as well as working with the team caring for that patient to ensure a safe transfer despite numerous detours. There were so many detours that a person just had to be there to even believe it happened the way it did.

Riley reached out to a facility to inquire about bed availability as a hospitalist and rounding team working on other tasks associated with the transfer, as well as caring for other patients. Riley's impromptu phone call to "help" the team resulted in a call to the physician and an available bed after many other transfer centers gave "no" answers. This patient is heading to a facility that can manage her specialized needs and intervene quickly should complications arise.

This is not all. In the midst of this, Riley communicated with me, the Charge Nurse, and the physician as needed. Riley updated us with the necessary details so that the family could be kept informed and comforted as we waited for everything to come together as it did. Riley's hard work enabled other staff to be present when the patient needed one to be present. Little did the family realize that they had a superhero in their corner dressed as a house supervisor!

This is one of many examples of a situation that makes Riley a real asset to MercyOne and a peer we can count on.
