I wanted to take a moment to share with you the outstanding care that Riley provided for a young man, even though she was not assigned to that room or in staffing, for that matter.

Riley demonstrated incredible humanity and kindness as well as patience. The patient had significant airway edema, and his jaw was wired shut after a LeFort procedure. We were waking him up to work towards extubation in the OR. Riley pulled up a chair and held his hand for literally hours on end, constantly reassuring and comforting him that he was going to be okay when he was feeling particularly anxious and vulnerable. She allowed him to write countless notes as she patiently tried to interpret each one. She did not leave his bedside until he was called to the OR.

Jess, who was assigned to him, was also incredibly patient with him and provided outstanding care, but was simply unable to stay in the room as she was paired with another room. Riley went above and beyond to create a calm and supportive environment, which made a significant difference for the young man.

It is rare to witness such thoughtful, compassionate care, and I believe it speaks volumes to the type of person Riley is, as well as her commitment to patient care. It’s warming to see such kindness and a willingness to go above and beyond. It’s moments like these that remind me what an amazing team we have.

Riley clearly takes exceptional pride in the work that she does, and it is clear that she makes a difference in the care that we provide. I am so grateful for Riley!

Thank you, Riley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
