I must say that Nurse Riley stood above the rest with her care, attitude, and compassion, knowing I had been dealing with this wound since May.
I was a patient of St. Charles Wound & Ostomy Services Clinic from May through December 2023. During this period, I saw every nurse at the Bend clinic as I went 3 times per week for my dressing changes and care of the wound on my left heel. Even though I received good care, my wound was very slow to heal due to being diabetic with heavy callous on my heel and gravity. I was finally approved for EpiFix and started going to the Wound & Ostomy Clinic in Madras in November. There I was treated by Riley Schafer, RN once a week. I must say that Nurse Riley stood above the rest with her care, attitude, and compassion, knowing I had been dealing with this wound since May. Nurse Riley took great care in examining the wound and, on one visit, noticed I had a tunnel in the wound, which is documented via the weekly reports and photos. She was very concerned during that visit, and she stayed on the phone for 30 minutes, waiting to be connected with my PCP at Summit Health. Nurse Riley wanted to be sure that her recommendation of an MRI was received by my PCP. I did get the MRI. I had EpiFix treatments 5 times and finally started to see some significant healing. I continued to see Nurse Riley 2 more times, and my heel wound finally healed. Nurse Riley has found her true profession of being a caring and compassionate nurse and her desire to help her patients. This is to be commended. I mentioned to her that I would call her Florence Nightingale if she helped get my wound to heal. She did, and on my last visit, I thanked her and called her Florence Nightingale, and she smiled.
