June 2024 Honoree
Riley Schmitz, RN
I was in the hospital for a scheduled induction of my second child. My induction started Monday night and Riley Schmitz was the Nurse Tuesday morning. When Riley started her shift I was at a 4 and that changed very quickly. With the rapid change my back labor came back. With every contraction I cried louder and louder. Riley looked at me a few times and said something along the lines of ' it's okay, you are going to have a baby here very soon'. From that point on Riley felt like she was another personal support person in the room for me and not only a nurse. When it came time to push, Riley was very reassuring letting me know how great of a job I was doing. To me it felt like I was curled up in a ball screaming from the pain, so this was greatly appreciated. By the end of Riley’s shift it felt as if I was saying goodbye to a friend. My husband and I were very appreciative of Riley’s support, care and comfort during labor.
Thank you, Riley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
