He made me feel valid in my concerns and continued to explain every process.
During our stay in the ICU, we experienced a lot of back-and-forth communication with both the providers and the nursing staff. One of my biggest complaints was that communication was not where I needed it to be. During the first hour of his shift, I told Riley that I needed open communication with my mom's care. Riley went above and beyond in this. He did not do a single thing without letting me know and giving me the opportunity to be present, and I am aware that this is a tedious task. He was incredibly helpful in explaining the unit processes and what was happening at that point in my mom's care. During his shift, she was on a lot of pain medication and was definitely on the loopy side. When she would sit there and make jokes, he would laugh with her even if they weren't funny. He made that night so easy-going and lighthearted, and I never thought I would see a night like that in the ICU. He made me feel valid in my concerns and continued to explain every process. He helped me advocate for her, and he went above and beyond in her care; it was amazing. He explained every process to her, even as she laughed or closed her eyes while he was talking. He was so sweet and patient with her; words cannot explain the appreciation I have for this. I don't think I have ever seen someone be so kind and attentive while doing the smallest task, like taking a blood sugar reading or removing a Foley catheter. He was honestly nothing short of amazing. I know that her visit to the ICU was stressful for everyone involved, but he made it 100 times better.
