Rita was absolutely amazing. I wasn't progressing, wasn't even dilating after 3 days of induction. She was in my room most of her shift monitoring my baby's heart rate. When they increased the Pitocin my baby's heart rate dropped. She would stop it or turn it down and consult the doctor. They did this three times and after the 3rd time the machine was beeping and Rita came flying in to shut it off. Rita said she didn't care what the doctor said, she wasn't turning it back on. She knew the severity of the situation if she did, it could cause neurological damage to my son. The doctor came in and insisted we try again, and Rita advocated for me and my baby. Thankfully, the doctor decided on a C-section and Rita was able to be in the room. She talked me through everything and was such an angel to me and my family. My son came out blue and needed some rescues breaths and after a minute he finally cried. I could never thank Rita enough for saving my boy's life and encouraging the C-section. A week after my son was born, I was diagnosed with 3 pulmonary embolisms and was admitted to women's and children's. Sure enough, after being in my room for just minutes, Rita came in to check on me and I wasn't even one of her patients. She made me feel so well cared for and checked in on me periodically throughout her busy day. It's people like her that make hospitals not so bad. Thank you, Rita, for keeping my family together.
