May 2023 Honoree
Rita Smith, MHA, BSN, RN, CPN
Rita is a very visible leader. She makes rounds throughout the hospital at least once per day. When the hospital is over capacity she assists in expediting discharges. She goes into the ER to support the staff who are overwhelmed. She “encourages” the physicians to do their part in creating discharges. She doesn’t just sit at her desk and delegate. She is involved & present.
Rita is great at recognizing team members for a job well done. She will also hold the team accountable when necessary. This earns her the respect of the team, upholds the BayCare standards, and sets expectations. She makes us feel appreciated. She is sympathetic to the difficulties we face.
Although Rita is a director, she doesn’t put herself on a pedestal. She is fun to be around and is “one of the gang”. These attributes are what make her stand out as a leader and deserving of recognition.
