My husband had a ruptured brain aneurysm and was air lifted to Overlook. His nurse in the neuro ICU, Rita was our angel. She treated my husband, myself, our daughter, and family with such love and comfort, it made the nightmare we were going through as bearable as it could be. I caught her a couple of times singing to him as she was in the room or talking to him like he was awake. She asked questions to get to know him and our family.
Unfortunately, my husband passed away while at Overlook and my only comfort was having Rita there with us for this week and treating us how she did. I looked for her comfort and support daily through this time. Rita deserves more than awards...through our family's time of need she was there for all of us and knowing my husband wasn't going to make it, she still treated him like a person every day! It means the world to me and my daughter to know that during his last days he was still treated like the man he was.
