I have had River twice as my nurse and the critical thinking skills he uses are top notch and what I would expect for any KMC nurse! Truly showed compassion and empathy during my stay, thank you so much!
As a nurse myself, it's sometimes the worst assignment to have to take a doctor or nurse as your patient. River listened to why my symptoms where presenting as they were for example, I am on three blood pressure medications but for migraines and Raynaud's. Instead of just looking at the blood pressure, River looked at the MAP and saw that I was profusing just fine and that the reason for low blood pressure was not unusual based on medication.
Just because a blood pressure is high or low doesn't mean don't give other meds, it means use critical thinking and ask for parameters. For example, I work on stroke unit, we want high blood pressures, float nurses panic but we as team communicate not tell a patient no and call the MD or NP on call for assistance if need be. River was able to do listen, assess, critical think, get things taken care of in a timely manner and with communication to me the patient with giving me clear options of my choices and why. Great Nurse and a would make a wonderful charge nurse!
