Robert showed heartfelt empathy when he was discharging us. He gave us all hugs, and MJ asked if he could be her nurse at home! We truly and deeply had a connection with Robert.
My father and I would like to nominate Robert Achim for the DAISY Award for the exceptional care he gave to my mother /wife, MJ. MJ was admitted to the hospital to the 5th floor PACU. She received excellent care and the nurses were very attentive to her. She was transferred to 9T, and her nurse during the day was Robert for the time she was there until discharge. From the moment we met him, we as a family felt at ease and comfortable, and we grew attached to him. Especially MJ! She was having trouble going to the bathroom, and Robert made his "Special Cocktail " for her, and it worked. It worked so well that we felt bad for constantly having to call him to come change her, etc., but he did with a big smile on his face and was so happy it worked, and she was feeling better. After that we called it Robert's Cocktail and told him he needs to market it!

My Dad enjoyed talking to him about being Sicilian, things going on in the world and just everyday life. My mom was always asking where Robert was, He always made sure she was comfortable and if there was anything needed for my dad and I. He always came by to say goodnight at the end of his shift. We all lit up each day when we saw Robert because we knew she was in good hands.

MJ was discharged home to hospice care, and Robert showed heartfelt empathy when he was discharging us. He gave us all hugs, and MJ asked if he could be her nurse at home! We truly and deeply had a connection with Robert. All the nurses who took care of her were professional and did their jobs well, but Robert was exempt from the rule. He is professional in so many ways, went above and beyond, and showed that being a nurse was his true calling.

Sadly MJ passed a couple of weeks later. I let the nurses know who took care of her and the hardest was to tell the news to Robert. When I did, he had tears in his eyes, and I gave him a hug and told him he did a wonderful job caring for her and how grateful we were. He asked how my dad was doing. My dad is 87, and Robert was truly concerned about him.
