Bob continued this high level of care by giving me all the resources for care management as well as answering all of our continuous questions.
My wife’s father was brought in late last night after what seemed to be an overdose/seizure of some kind. We were notified of his status after tests were completed by the doctor on call, who was thorough in his explanation. We were told to reach out this morning for updates as he was stable but still in a fragile state physically. Given that we are located in North Carolina we were not able to come see him or be there to have hands on interactions with the medical staff. Since this was the case, you can imagine our level of concern given his history of addiction, being notified of the seizures, and that he was in AFIB when we ended our conversation yesterday.
So coming into today we didn’t know how this was going to pan out. Since my wife is a teacher and is at school early without cell reception I was the line of communication between the hospital and her/her family. I was very fortunate enough to then be connected with her father’s nurse, Bob Brown. When first speaking with Bob, I was in a state of unknown in regards to J’s current condition. Bob ran through the whole spectrum of tests and results that they had completed within the first 12-hour time frame. He went into detail about what issues were caused from what and how a treatment plan was being put together for him. This initial conversation with him went a long way to putting my family at ease. However, lucky for Bob we had about 4-5 more conversations. He continued to go above and beyond with his level of knowledge and understanding. He kept me in the loop when results were in and how J was progressing. He continued this high level of care by giving me all the resources for care management as well as answering all of our continuous questions.
This is the best patient-related experience that I have received at a hospital. The level of care and compassion that Bob put into my father-in-law, even knowing the probable outcome, should be commended. Bob, thanks for what you did today. It made a scared family feel a lot better by you going above and beyond.
