August 2026 Honoree
Robert Couchman, RN, BSN
My mother was admitted to the unit a few days ago. We have had great nurses offering great care, but Robert truly stood out. He has been incredibly patient and very supportive while we dealt with the difficulties of a hospital stay. He was gentle and caring for my mother, made her smile, and really felt supported. He would come into the room always smiling, cheery, and positive.
Robert really paid attention to our concerns regarding medication and my mom's procedure. For example, Mom had a bad reaction to one of the medications, and when I mentioned it to him, he immediately took time to look up exactly when and what was given and made sure to set an alert not to give her that medication again. This was very important because Mom was so afraid to have that reaction again; not once did he minimize her feelings; he made sure she felt heard.
He really gave us peace of mind when it came to uncertainty regarding her diagnosis and plan of action, answering all of our questions in a way that helped us feel confident that we are in the right place with the right people. My mother regarded him as a true human being, and she is usually difficult when it comes to trusting someone.
We hope that Robert receives recognition for his kindness and way of providing care. He may not feel like he has done anything too special, but to us, to me, the simple human kindness was more than enough to stand out amongst all the others.
Thank you, Robert! You have made this seemingly impossible situation feel very positive. All the blessings to you; I wish more people brought this type of light into the world. Truly, thank you.
