Robert D. Torres, BSN, RN, CCRN
I am honored to nominate Robert Torrez, 3 E-PCS, for the DAISY Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership, compassion, and commitment to excellence in nursing. Robert exemplifies what it means to be a nursing leader. He leads with empathy, integrity, and humility, consistently placing patients, families, and staff at the center of every decision. His presence creates an environment where nurses feel supported, valued, and empowered to deliver the highest quality of care. Robert is always available to jump in when needed, day or night shift, and, in his own words, “I am here to help WK, not only in 3E.” He consistently reaches out to us, knowing our staffing is stretched, and takes on a patient load or the Resource role in the ICU with the same level of quality and compassion.
As a leader, Robert goes beyond administrative responsibilities. He is visible, approachable, and genuinely invested in the well-being of the entire team. Whether during moments of crisis, change, or celebration, he leads with calm confidence and compassion. Staff feel safe approaching him, asking for guidance, and support under his leadership. Most importantly, he models patient-centered care in every interaction. He advocates and ensures that patients receive not only excellent clinical care but also dignity, respect, and kindness. Families often express gratitude for how cared for and heard they feel—an outcome that speaks volumes about his leadership.
One of Robert’s greatest strengths is his ability to inspire others. Through mentorship, encouragement, and recognition, he helps nurses find purpose in their work, even during the most challenging times. Through his example, he consistently reminds us why we chose nursing in the first place. Robert truly embodies the DAISY Award values of compassion, courage, and extraordinary nursing leadership. His impact is felt daily by patients, families, and every member of the nursing team. This nomination is a heartfelt recognition of the difference he makes—not only in outcomes, but in our patients' lives. I strongly and proudly recommend Robert for the DAISY Leadership Award.
