Robin is a great listener – she has tremendous patience with everyone and wants to hear your story.
The first thing to say about Robin is that she is absolutely warm and friendly – every day to everyone who comes on the unit. She brings this warmth with her into patient rooms, but also to every encounter she has with staff. We really feel cared for by her not only as an employee but as a person as a whole and in our lives outside of work. Part of this is because Robin is a great listener – she has tremendous patience with everyone and wants to hear your story. You never feel like you are taking time from her. Her door is always open and many times you can see her sitting down and talking with staff in her office despite the many meetings and other responsibilities she has on her plate. This really empowers people on the unit because we trust her so much and are willing to try new things and share how they are going with her.
Robin also proves herself to us each day by joining in our work. She is out on the floor with us, doing daily rounds on all the patients, answering call bells, tidying up the unit, checking on all of the staff, and asking how our day is going and if she can do anything to help. The term we hear a lot about her is that she is “in the trenches” with us. This has built so much goodwill among the team and so much respect for her. When we see her going into a patient's room, we don’t assume there’s an issue that she’s addressing, it’s just because she truly cares. This makes it so much easier for us to rally together as a team, when we face tough moments, because we know she cares about us and will have our back.
Robin is an amazing person, manager, and friend and I am proud to be on this team with her as our leader! I would also like to include in my nomination just another example of how wonderful Robin is. I am working today on Thanksgiving and she came in early this morning and set up this beautiful table of coffee and goodies for our team, patients and their families to enjoy. She really is wonderful!
