A parent of one of our special needs patients, who is on a special formula, called Robin to see if she had any suggestions for assistance. The mother said that when she had her supplies delivered there was only one can of formula and the supply company was out. Mom called around and none of the stores near her had it in stock. The company mentioned they might have more for her on Saturday. Robin checked our sample supply and we had it in stock. Mom could not come and pick it up because she has two kids, one being special needs and Dad worked so there would not be anyone from the family who would be able to make it to our office.

Robin offered to deliver the formula to the family so the child would not miss any feedings. Robin also would have found some between all of our offices and the market if we were out, to make sure this patient did not miss any feedings or need to compromise. The supply company was able to assist late on Saturday but without Robin’s above and beyond efforts, who knows what would have happened, although I suspect Robin would have assisted until that family was taken care of one way or another.
